Have you heard of Koala? No, we don’t mean the adorable, furry Australian native. Koala is a revolutionary video conferencing platform that merges gaming with virtual learning. It’s the first of its kind and we have already seen it completely turn around so many of our virtual tutoring students’ attitudes and motivation for learning. Here’s how it works: you, the teacher, signs up for a classroom (it’s completely free!). Once you’ve designed your avatar and customized your space, you can invite your students to join you in your room. There, they can design their own avatars before jumping into learning. There are tools available like drawing, typing, post-it notes, and text boxes.
The Space
Inside a Koala classroom is a whole world of learning opportunity. A Koala classroom can look however you want it to look. The blank slate design is the same, but once you get creative with the content and the design, you can turn it into just about anything that will fit your needs and the needs of your students. There are interactive whiteboards, a built-in web browser, and open spaces you can turn into anything imaginable.
In creating your space, you can upload items from your computer or use an image from Koala’s clipart that comes with the platform.
